The Fishing
The Fishing
We specialise in two types of fishing holidays:
Kayak Fishing = Thrill-of-a-lifetime fishing
Bespoke Lodge Rentals = Bring your own boat
Kyuquot is one of the best fishing grounds in British Columbia. The village is located minutes away from fishing for salmon, halibut, sea bass and cod. Kyuquot is prolific with both chinook and coho salmon.
June is the ideal month for kayak fishing as the salmon have flooded into Kyuquot Sound for their summer feeding season. All the inside reefs provide fish of all species excellent habitat. Mid-summer is a favourite fishing time because the bigger spring salmon are in close waters feeding & bottom fish are plentiful. Late summer is prime time for coho fishing who give an exciting fight on the surface. Kayakers can use our Vibe kayaks outfitted with Bixby electric motors to cruise around the protected waters around the islands surrounding Kyuquot to fish.
Our lodge is our secret to filling the freezer year after year. The continental shelf runs along the Pacific Ocean on Vancouver Island, coming closest to shore near Kyuquot. Massive schools of salmon, halibut, cod and sea bass come in from the Pacific, and when they reach the continental shelf they find the shallower ocean depths around Kyuquot teeming with bait fish. Marine biologists have nicknamed this pathway along the continental shelf leading to Kyuquot as the “Super Salmon Highway”. To the west, the Brooks Peninsula is the furthest outreach of land on Vancouver Island. This means that fish swim along the ocean super highway and stay nestled in Kyuquot all summer, feeding on the vast schools of bait fish. The Kyuquot reef, only minutes away from the village, creates an ideal habitat for the fish to feed.
The fish are ready to bite and waiting for you. All you need to do is cast a line. We love to fish and can help you organize the best fishing holiday you’ve ever experienced.
